Linux
I am a long-time Linux-user. Around 1998, I got more than fed up with Windows, the instability and inability to customise things to my liking drove me away and I discovered the world of freedom of choice, open-source, and the power of a UNIX-based operating system. I started out with Red Hat 6.0, and over all the years I have seen Linux mature considerably, and I myself also matured in my expertise. I nowadays run mainly Ubuntu Linux and am quite satisfied.
I am a strong proponent of open-source software, software that is freely distributable and which can be freely modified by anyone. Likewise, I also strongly support open standards and open file formats. I therefore try to publish all of my own software on these same terms.
I also have some blog posts about linux which you can read if you are interested in this subject.
My Computers
All of my computers nowadays run on some version of Ubuntu Linux. Over the years I have seen many different distributions, I started out with Red Hat 6.0, and used Mandrake and later Fedora Core for quite a while. On my server I used to run debian, and I even ran FreeBSD for a while on a secondary workstation.
Below you can view some screenshots of my main workstation "castor":
